These are paintings I did during a life changing year in LA (2000).
Once I got clean the only thing I wanted to do was paint again. Check out the 4 part wonderboard series on the bottom of the page. There are many more pieces from this year but these are the ones I am featuring here for now
.

These two paintings go together but can be sold seperately. I was living in Los Angeles and working for this guy painting a house. I had been living in the streets just prior to that and had no money even for lunch each day. I ate grapefruit and avocados that I picked from a couple trees that were in the yard. Someone was looking out for me, but when the job was over he decieded that he did not want to pay me. It was a week before Christmas and I had worked for him for three weeks for no money. The man owned a business , a cafe. The only way anyone knew that cafe was there was by the sign. When my friend heard what he did he went by there and stole the sign. He gave it to me to paint on .. and so I did. He went out of business soon after.

Like I say , at this time when I was in Los Angeles, I was pretty broke. I really wanted to paint but I did not have much money to buy canvas etc... at least not very big ones. There was a construction site down the street and one day while walking by I found some scraps of this wonderboard material. It is used to build bathrooms. It turned out to be a great find because it is a beautifull surface to work on. It looks like fresco fragments.
